About Epson RX690
Epson RX690 is capable color inkjet multifunction printer that provides high quality printing and scanning. Although some functions are difficult to use, this printer Epson provide home users with a great alternative to professional photo labs.
Epson provides all the accessories needed to make the printer functional out of the box, including a USB cable, manual, installation CD and a complete set of inks. The installation CD driver is a simple process using the 'easy to install option. Custom Installation is also an option allowing users to install drivers and software.
The printer control panel allows easy access to copying, memory card and printing functions, with a 2.5in LCD. The interface is a little difficult to use at first as the menus are usually crowded. However, once the user is accustomed to the system, its capabilities are quite extensive. Users can view their photos as a slide show, print an index sheet of photos, and even print images of a motion JPEG film of a memory card. The restoration reprint photos feature is particularly impressive because it allows the user to scan photographs and faded to restore their color before reprinting.
The print quality is excellent overall. In our tests, we compared the results RX690 Canon multifunction equivalent, the PIXMA MP970. Both printers provide exceptional quality, but with prejudices of a different colour. In trials with high-quality prints, Epson given defined blacks and realistic flesh tones, while the Canon has produced a yellowish tone dynamic sacrifice everything black and red tones a bit. From real world photography featuring shades darker and people in plans Epson gave the advantage in terms of quality photo printing tests, but the PIXMA MP970 excels in the reproduction of photographs of landscapes outdoors .
When printing documents with a combination of text and graphics, the RX690 is less likely to provide dynamic, intense color results than the Canon, especially with the project and the level of quality tests. Epson while the results are still readable, the intensity of color is light, perhaps a measure of saving ink. CD / DVD printing quality is good, particularly on the print media mat.
In our resolution of 600 dpi scanning tests, the Canon scans revealed a higher level of contrast that Epson. The RX690 low contrast provided more details in the images darkest test, but had a dull shiny overtone in scans. He also produced the realistic representation of color compared to the original image, especially with the light source images. The print speeds for the RX690 are acceptable. The printer was able to produce 5.1 pages per minute (ppm) for a standard document text and 4.9ppm including for graphics. These photos were printed at a reasonable speed, with A4 printing photos in a minute and a half 4x6-inch prints in 53 seconds.
The RX690 supports most popular memory cards, including SD, SDHC, XD, CompactFlash, Memory Stick, and although the multimedia cards (MMC) are not supported. It is also a USB port for PictBridge printing directly using a camera or compatible mobile phone. Scan directly to the memory cards is a useful addition.
The printer has two paper trays and can accommodate up to 300 sheets of A4 paper ordinary, which is more than adequate for most uses. However, since it lacks an automatic document feeder (ADF) and auto-duplex, this printer is better adapted to house a small office in the medium printing needs.
